We all know that a simple snack in the world of a toddler is usually not simple by any means. Whether you have fed your child a cracker or a fruit roll-up, they are going to find a way to spread it throughout the house, car or restaurant.
It is not always easy, but sometimes the best plan is to make your own snacks for your toddlers. True, it is not as convenient as going down to the store and buying some Oreo cookies, fruit snacks or something else along those lines. It is, however going to be much healthier and cost effective. It may even prove to be a little less messy!

There are surprisingly many options when it comes to preparing a homemade toddler snack. The catch is preparing a snack for your toddler that he can feed himself with minimal mess!
Before we go any further, I think we need a clause -- when we mention minimal mess, toddler and toddler feeding himself all in the same context this is definitely to be taken with an open mind and an understanding of the wold of toddlers.
Here are a few homemade toddler snacks that will allow for self feeding and minimal mess:
1.) Pretzels and peanut butter - Yes, I know it sounds crazy but I have a method. One, use the straight pretzel sticks, two, scoop out a spoonful of creamy and soft peanut butter into a bowl, and three, place your child in a safe zone.
2.) Apples - Apples are wonderful because not only are they a healthy toddler snack, but you can slice them into wedges and your toddler can feed himself -- oh yeah, no mess!
3.) Cookies - What do you expect? They cannot all be healthy. Cookies are great because you can include your toddler on the baking process. Kids absolutely love to help out in the kitchen and when it comes to baking cookies, you cannot go wrong.
4.) Crackers and hummus - You would be surprised how many kids actually like hummus. Whether you make your own or cheat and buy the hummus at a store (I suggest Costco's hummus - delicious), you all you have to do is place a small amount into a child-safe bowl -- which I believe translates into plastic -- and let them dip away.
These are just a few toddler snacks that will hopefully get your mind going. I think that the most important thing to remember when it comes to preparing a toddler snack that they are going to feed to themselves is that they will make a mess. Our job then is to minimize the mess as best we can and then to relax when what is bound to happen actually does happen.
